Horses In Service Instructors must maintain PATH, International Certification. A PATH Certified instructor must demonstrate basic levels of competency in Equine Management, Horsemanship, Riding Instruction, Teaching Methodology, and Disabilities.
PATH riding instructors must complete a specified number of continuing education hours each year to maintain certification. These education hours may be gained in horse care & management courses, PATH Annual and Regional Conference workshops, medical / education or disability-related workshops that are sponsored by any recognized education / medical organization / institution. College equine courses, internships, PATH-approved Training Courses, and judging / competing in horseshows also are accepted as continuing education hours.
To become a PATH Certified Instructor, canidates must complete 25+ hours of training+teaching hours under the guidance of a PATH Certified Registered Instructor. Other elements of becoming a PATH instructor include PATH on-line self study courses covering equine and disabilities knowledge, PATH on-line testing of this knowledge, PATH Instructor-in-Traning hands-on workshop, and PATH on-site evaluation of riding and teaching abilities.
